This unique telescope, known as the Hobby-Eberly, at McDonald Observatory is one of the world's largest optical telescopes and operates as a joint project between five universities:
The University of Texas at Austin, Pennsylvania State University, Stanford University, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, and Georg-August-Universität Göttingen.
