Whirly Wickem Wackem | Wednesday Aug 13, 2008
Posting a few abstracts for a few days.
I titled this one after a riddle my grandfather used to cite. As I type, it sounds kind of silly, but here goes:
As I was coming around the Whirly Wickem Wackem,
I saw Bob Bickem Backem in the Whirly Wickem Wackem,
So I called Tom Tickem Tackem to get Bob Bickem Backem out of the Whirly Wickem Wackem.
My good-hearted and fun-loving grandfather was a farmer outside of Ranger, Texas, and the meaning of it is:
As I was riding my horse around the corn field,
I saw the cow in the corn field,
So I called the dog to get the cow out of the corn field.
Fun, huh? ;-) Funny the things one remembers from childhood - he had several out of the ordinary sayings and was always entertaining me with magic tricks and games.
I am happy for those memories because my time with him was short, as he had a stroke when I was twelve.

As I was going around my whirley wickem wackum, I saw Tom tickum tackum in my Whirley wickem wackum. I called Barney bickum backum to drive Tom tickum tackum out of my whirley wickum wackum.
And here it goes again translated:
As I was going around my whirley wickem wackum. That's my cornfield. I saw Tom tickum tackum That's my mule. In my Whirley wickem wackum. That's my cornfield. I called Barney bickum backum. That's my dog. To drive Tom tickum tackum. That's my mule. Out of my whirley wickum wackum. That's my cornfield.
And yes, every time it was explained the exact same way.
