Yes, it is dry grass (due to drought occurring in the Davis Mountains of Texas)
The subsurface is rocky and the regular use of the trail has created a natural stone pathway.

cool frame! it could almost be like an abstract shot. i like how the curve of the side of the tree sort of matches the curve of the trail.

Looks like someone drew a big line in the ground. Almost seems like a river of dirt winding its way through the grass.
