One of the more common and beautiful birds in Texas is the male cardinal. I have fond memories of waking to the "red bird's" song outside my grandmother's window as a child.

I agree...the sound of the male cardinal is quite expressive. They really do sing a song. But I've not had nearly as good luck capturing Cardinals (male or otherwise) as you seem to have.

This is gorgeous! The detail of the feathers is remarkable. I have never seen this bird in California -- I'd probably drop my camera in excitement if I did with all that color.
