American Goldfinch | 12:09PM Jan 09, 2008

The winter "nonbreeding plumage" of an American Goldfinch. Their 'breeding' plumage (in spring and summer) is a beautiful bright yellow and gives them the deserved name of 'gold' finch.

Initially, I was going to post an image of a red male cardinal today. It was perched in a similar leafless tree, but I remembered I had photographed a cardinal in a prettier environment last summer.
