This image is of an excavation site at Jamestown, Virginia when I visited last autumn, but today is the actual birthday – 400 years old. Or rather, the four hundredth anniversary of the founding of Jamestown by England on May 14, 1607. This specific site was the first permanent English settlement in the United States.

Congrats that you were fortunate to go! I have wanted to visit Jamestown for a while. Things always get in the way. Must have been a fabulous visit.
